RYDER CUP Golfer Graeme McDowell became the 2008 Sports Man of the Year at the Coleraine Sports Awards in the Lodge Hotel on Friday evening.
McDowell was just one of a number of international sports men and women amongst the nominees which included Ulster and Ireland rugby star Andrew Trimble and Olympic oarsmen Alan Campbell, Richard Chambers and Richard Archibald. The evening, which was attended by one of the biggest crowds in years, saw the Minister for Culture, Sport and Leisure Gregory Campbell pay tribute to the wealth of talent within the Borough as the dedication, talent and achievments of these sports men and women was recognised.
Guest for the evening was BBC1 Northern Ireland's Jackie Fullerton who delighted and entertained as he interviewed each of the award winners from the 13 categories and three bursaries.
With one of the widest range of sports represented within the nominees there were winners from rowing, motorcycling, bowling, hockey, soccer and surfing.
