Heartbreak for Derry Ladies at Croke Park
Thursday, 2 October 2008
Two members of Derry Ladies side that lost out to London in the All-Ireland final, console each other after an absorbing final.
DERRY's hopes of winning the All Ireland Junior ladies football championship at Croke Park on Sunday fell flat under a barrage of goals.
London scored three in the first half to lead by 3-3 to 0-5 at the interval and hit two more in the second half. A goal from sub Sinead Cassidy gave Derry a fleeting chance but the exiles got the goals and goals win games.
Full forward Linda Lodge scored three of them.
Just over 20,000 attended the three games with Tipperary beating Clare in the Intermediate decider. A brilliant Cork team made it four senior titles in a row when the over ran Monaghan in the second half to win by 4-13 to 0-11. Several of the Cork team had already won All Ireland senior camogie medals with their county.
