Northern Ireland call up for Stephen and Rebecca thumbnailStephen and Rebecca Cuckoo who excelled at the recent Northern Ireland Area Grading.

THE Coleraine Judo is please to report that brother and sister team Stephen (15) and Rebecca Cuckoo (14) were selected to represent Northern Ireland at the Heart of England Championships held in the National Stadium, Birmingham last weekend.
Rebecca holds the judo grade of 16th Man (Junior Brown Belt) and Stephen is a 14th Mon (Blue belt) which makes them the two highest graded players in the Coleraine Club.
Coach Richard Briggs reported that although the two Coleraine players put up a noteworthy performance they did not finish in the medals.
This was disappointing for the pair as they have come home with medals from the Heart of England in the past and attribute their lack of success to a poor draw and travel fatigue. For those readers interested in trying the exciting Olympic Sport of Judo to get fit, for self defense, competition or just good fun come along to the Leisure Centre any Friday evening where coaches Richard Briggs (5th Dan) and Terry Boylan (1st Dan) will make you welcome. Club times are Juniors (7-14 years) 7.30 to 8.30 and Seniors (15+) 8.30 to 9.30. The Club caters for all fitness levels and judo knowledge. For Senior (18+) players the UUC Club will be kicking off a new season on Monday 29 September in the UUC Minor Hall at 7.30pm and all experienced players are welcome to come along.
