Goat joins Remembrance day in Kilrea - no ‘kidding’! thumbnailConstable Todd with the goat that appeared in the centre of Kilrea on Sunday, during the towns remembrance service.

KILREA enjoyed a surprise visit from a very unlikely guest at their Remberence day celebrations on Sunday, November 9 when a local goat joined the commerative celebrations.
Garvagh police officer, Sergeant Jeremy Thompson said: "The parade had taken place and the service had just started. I observed a goat walking down one of the alley ways towards the parade. It seemed friendly but at the same time, curious."
Sergeant Thompson said he could see the goat was walking into the parade and decided not to take any chances with their farmyard guest.
He said: "I contacted one of my colleagues and told him there was a goat heading towards them. He thought I was 'kidding', if you'll excuse the pun.."
Sergeant Thompson subsequently "shooed" the goat up the lane but it was having none of it and decided to "come back down again."
“I got a scarf from one of my colleagues and tethered it," said Sergeant Thompson. "Full council was out and the goat was coming up behind them. We got it tethered up and then took it back to where it had escaped from afterwards."
The police said the goat probably got free of its own accord. It escaped once more after they initially returned it, but was later fully secured.
The owners apologised for the incident, but Sergeant Thompson told the Chronicle they heard it was "the best picture of the day."
